Kibosho Parish Catholic Church, also known as “Christ the King Parish Kibosho”, is an incredible historic and significant religious site nestled at the foothill of the magnificent Kilimanjaro. It’s a place of great cultural and spiritual importance for the local community and beyond. The church is one of the oldest Catholic missions in Tanzania, having stood for an astonishing 131 years! It was established by the Holy Ghost Fathers (Spiritans) in the late 18th century, during the early days of Christian missionary work in East Africa. It played a vital role in spreading Christianity and education among the Chagga people, the predominant ethnic group in the region.
